Casement vs. Awning Window: Which Best Fits Your Kitchen?

Casement and awning windows are widely used in kitchens and it’s not hard to see why. Both of them crank outward, making them suitable for places that require a reach, such as above the kitchen sink and by the counter.

Although these home replacement windows share many similarities in design, they’re not always interchangeable. When all is said and done, the casement window is the better bet for your kitchen. Larger Glass Area

Casement and awning windows consist of single pieces of glass. Their singular panel eliminates the nuisance produced by multiple sashes. In turn, they can capture unbroken views and admit abundant, uninterrupted daylight.

But when size matters, go with casement window replacement. Casement windows can cover oversized openings and are usually taller than they’re wider. On the other hand, awning windows have great length but lack height. Between the two, the superior glass area of the casement window makes it the better choice.

Better Ventilation

Swinging windows provide top-to-bottom ventilation. What separates casement and awning units, though, is their ability to direct the wind. In most cases, breezes don’t flow straight to windows; rather, they move across.

Casement windows are hinged at one side, and their sole panel can be adjusted at different angles to control and direct ventilation. The same can’t be said about awning units that open from the bottom. When left ajar, awning windows might even impede the entry of outdoor air.

Easier Maintenance
