Single vs Double Sliding Windows

Renewal by Andersen® of Rapid City, we offer a plethora of styles for replacement window installation. One of the most popular options we have are sliding windows. It provides maximum airflow and daylighting and is the preferred style for contemporary and modern homes.

Sliding windows come in two variants – single and double sliding. In this post, we compare the two so that you have a better understanding of which one is right for your home.

Single Sliding Windows

The standard sliding window is made of one stationary sash and a sliding sash that moves through a track. Where the stationary sash is located depends on you as it can either be on the left or right side. If the wind is blowing from the right, the sliding sash should be on the left side so that you get as much airflow as possible.

Single sliding windows are often paired with picture window installation. The sliding window is essentially a picture window that opens, and pairing the two gives you maximum views and lighting on top of ventilation.

Double Sliding Windows

As its name suggests these sliding windows come with two movable slashes. It can slide open to the left or right, providing maximum airflow regardless of where the air is coming from. Another advantage of this sliding window variant is that since both sashes can pop out, cleaning the frames and glass panes is easier to do.  This makes this variant less of a hassle to clean and is great if you’re unsure where the wind is coming from.

At Renewal by Andersen of Rapid City, we offer both sliding windows for new installation and replacement and we’ll help you pick the right one that’s best for your home. We also offer double hung window repair.
