The Importance of U-Factor

Heat transfer is a big problem for most homes today. A cooler home can get expensive, especially when you have to rely on your AC unit more often. That’s why at Renewal by Andersen® of Rapid City, our windows have great U-Factor. Our home replacement windows can improve your home’s energy efficiency significantly.

Here’s what you need to know:

Explaining the U-Factor

Typically, windows conduct direct sunlight into the interior of your home. Over the next few hours, the exposure causes it to heat up, resulting in reduced comfort levels. The rate of heat transference through the window is its U-Factor. In general, a lower U-Factor is better, which we’ll explain later on.

Apart from transference, U-Factor also considers airflow and emissivity. In terms of airflow, this rating can help you determine how much air passes through the window. More airflow means more cool air that leaves or more warm air that enters. That’s why casement window replacement is ideal since they are airtight.

Meanwhile, emissivity deals with the different energy types a product can absorb. This is a sign of what the window can take from UV light to radiation. This energy will then transfer into and out of your room.

Explaining Our Windows

A low U-Factor is a sign of good energy efficiency. It means your window conducts less heat, has little to no airflow and can filter out different light energy. That’s why our windows have our specially formulated High-Performance™ Low-E4® glazing. Our glass has been proven to increase energy efficiency in the summer by over 40% compared to regular windows.

We use our Low-E glass for all of our installations. You can get it for casement, double-hung and awning windows installation. We also offer them in conjunction with Fibrex® frames, which help insulate our windows and doors.

If you’re looking for energy-efficient windows, look no further. We are the leading provider of window solutions in Spearfish, SD. You can call us at (605) 341-7831 or fill out our form to request a quote.
