Window Cleaning Best Practices

The best way to enjoy the views provided by your brand-new replacement window installation is to keep the glass clean and clear of any blemishes. Proper window maintenance is best done by a professional, however, this is not to say you can’t take a few steps to get rid of any blemishes that might get on your glass windows.

As with cleaning any part of your home, there are always good and bad practices. You don’t want to risk scratching the glass or the frame with the wrong type of cleaning material. Here are a few tips from our window experts at Renewal by Andersen® of Rapid City on how to keep your replacement windows free of any tarnish.

The Right Scrubber

When cleaning your double-hung windows, it’s best to use a soft and non-abrasive washcloth to do the job or you might end up needing a double-hung window repair appointment real soon. This advice applies to any style of windows. For best results, you can even have two washcloths for this purpose: one for the interior and one for the exterior. This way, you’re not carrying any dirt or stains from one side to another.

Special Cleaning Solutions

There are specialized window cleaning solutions available in your local handyman shop and you can use these for washing away any dirt on your windows. However, you can also use a mild liquid detergent or dishwashing soap as an alternative. Use organic and biodegradable soap to keep nearby plants and shrubs healthy.

Streak-free Squeegees

The large glass areas of your picture window installation would require a squeegee to keep clean. It’s best to replace the squeegee blade regularly to avoid creating streaks on the glass. This works well on other styles of replacement window with expansive glass areas for views.
